Access and Limitations

 

 

PLEASE NOTE:

 

The Flint Mill was built into a steep hillside and has 6 different floor levels so not surprisingly there are lots of steps to cope with when moving around the building although most of them are nice and wide and have strong handrails.

 

The guest suite is located on the first floor and there are 14 internal or 18 external steps to reach it. Dora and Alan will of course try to accommodate any special needs if at all possible but it would be best to for visitors to discuss their requirements prior to booking.

 

Don't forget also that there may be a function on at the Mill Hotel next door during your visit so you may get the chance to see a beautiful blushing bride (or even gate-crash the reception if the music sounds good - only kidding!).

 

You will of course be made aware of any known information which might affect your stay (for instance, local events that might make the roads extra busy) at the time of booking.

Introduction

The Flint Mill in Stone is situated in a picturesque wooded setting only 250m from the bustling High Street of this popular market town renowned as the Food and Drink Capital of Staffordshire. This award-winning Listed Building was featured on Channel 4's The Restoration Man.

The property has a level street approach but is built into the hillside and so there are numerous steps to negotiate on site. We offer just one double guest suite on the first floor at present but have plans to provide a ground floor suite in coming years. A continental breakfast is provided for you to enjoy in the suite or on the patio area (weather permitting).

Pre-Arrival

  • Our exact location can be found by entering "The Flint Mill In Stone" in Google Maps;

  • The Directions tab on our website www.theflintmillinstone.co.uk gives further guidance;

  • Stone railway station is serviced by London North Western Railway trains (15 mins walk or we can arrange collection);

  • Mainline stations at Stafford and Stoke on Trent are linked by bus routes to Stone town centre (about 250m);

  • Accessible taxi facilities are provided by Smart Cars 01785 288999.

 

Car Parking and Arrival

  • A tarmac roadway leads right to the entrance of The Flint Mill with adjacent well-lit parking facilities;

  • There is a ramped front pathway but a 100mm threshold on the main door into the reception area;

  • A gated side access gives alternative external access to the suite and private patio via 19 external stone steps (160-200mm high) which are lit by motion sensor lighting and enclosed by walls;

  • The internal staircase to the suite has 16 timber steps (200mm) and secure metal handrail to one side and is also lit by motion-sensor lighting;

  • The minimum door size to access all facilities is 750mm.

 

Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed into the main hall (the former location of the massive water wheel) where they will be asked to confirm their registration and payment details;

  • It is well-lit, level and tiled and firm seating is readily available with or without arms;

  • A magnifying glass, paper and pen is also readily available;

  • Guests will be shown immediately up to the suite to relax in private;

  • Assistance is available for luggage.

 

Bedrooms

  • The only guest suite is located on the first floor with a minimum of 16 steps up and 2 down to negotiate for access;

  • Once in the suite, the floor is level with short pile carpeting in the bedroom/sitting area and vinyl in the en-suite bathroom;

  • The rear stone-paved seating area and external steps are reached through a door with a 200mm step down;

  • There is one king size bed (680mm from floor to top of mattress), two tub chairs and two dining chairs;

  • There is a continuous supply of fresh filtered air to the suite to reduce dust and other allergies.

 

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

  • The en-suite bathroom has a 750mm wide door and is lit by motion-sensor LED lighting;

  • The wc is 400mm high, the vanity basin is 830mm and there is a P-shaped bath with 560mm sides and shower over;

  • No special grab rails are provided but the taps are easily operated lever-type.

 

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

  • The suite is accessible externally using the staircases previously detailed above.

 

Garden

  • There is a private stone-paved seating area to the rear of the suite and a walled patio area at ground level for the exclusive use of the guests.

 

Additional Information

  • Trained assistance dogs are welcome and they can enjoy the use of the enclosed rear patio area;

  • There is a free superfast broadband for guests who can use this for special access services such as Next Generation Text;

  • Phone signals from most networks are available;

  • The refrigerator in the suite can be used to store prescription medicine;
